Compatibility
Works well with:
Hyaluronic Acid Glycerin Betaine Urea Panthenol Niacinamide Allantoin Aloe Vera Lactic Acid Sodium Hyaluronate
Use caution with:
High concentrations of cationic polymers Strongly oxidizing agents
Sodium PCA is generally well-tolerated across most cosmetic systems. At high concentrations, cationic polymers may interact with the anionic sodium salt form, potentially reducing efficacy of both. Strongly oxidizing agents can degrade the pyrrolidone carboxylate structure over time.
Formulation notes
Naturally occurring component of the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). Typically used at 2–5% in leave-on formulations. No known regulatory restrictions; considered safe and well-tolerated. Hygroscopic in its pure form — store sealed. Functions best in slightly acidic to neutral pH ranges consistent with skin physiology.
