A supplement formulator designs the formula — selecting ingredients, dosages, excipients, and delivery format. A contract manufacturer physically produces the product at scale in a cGMP-compliant facility. Some contract manufacturers have in-house formulators; others require you to arrive with a finished formula. For small brands, using an independent formulator first means you own your formula and can take it to multiple manufacturers for competitive production quotes.
