The Rich Cream is a final-step moisturizer — it belongs at the end of your routine, after all water-based and active steps, because its occlusive shea-butter base will reduce absorption of anything applied on top of it.
A practical evening routine: cleanse, apply any toner or essence while skin is still slightly damp, follow with any serum (hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or a vitamin C serum if you use one), then apply The Rich Cream as the last step. The damp-skin application of your serum step matters — occlusives trap moisture most effectively when there is surface moisture to trap.
If you use a retinoid, apply it after your serum and before The Rich Cream. The Rich Cream can serve as a buffer in a technique sometimes called skin cycling or sandwich method — applying moisturizer before and/or after a retinoid reduces irritation without significantly reducing the retinoid's effect. Given how rich the formula is, it is particularly useful as an over-retinol buffer for skin that is building tolerance.
In the morning, a thinner moisturizer followed by sunscreen will usually serve most skin types better than The Rich Cream, which can create a somewhat heavy base under SPF and makeup. Very dry or mature skin may find it works well in the morning as a primer-like base, but test it under your usual SPF before committing to that routine.
Amount matters. A pea-to-marble-sized amount is typically enough for the full face and neck. More than that tends to pill or transfer, and using excess will not significantly improve the result — it will mostly waste an expensive product.
Do not apply The Rich Cream immediately after a strong acid exfoliant without diluting the acid exposure first. Occluding an acid with a rich cream before it has fully neutralized can increase irritation. Allow your skin to fully settle — usually 20 to 30 minutes — before applying.
Consistency matters more than amount per application. Two to four weeks of twice-daily use is typically the minimum timeline before meaningful changes in skin texture and hydration are noticeable with any rich emollient cream.
